Reading, Writing, & Relationships – Turning Struggling Schools into Communities of Success
Pat Roe is a Woman Making a Difference by “Turning Struggling Schools into Communities of Success!” For the past 6½ years Pat has worked in the Vancouver Public Schools as a Family-Community Resource Coordinator. Her work focuses on the important role that parent engagement plays in a child’s educational journey.
Pat has been involved in the creation of two Family-Community Resource Centers that meet the unique needs of the school community with activities that include an active pre-school outreach program, English conversation classes for parents, a food bank, and even mentoring.
Pat’s stories are sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, and always inspiring. She believes that together with parents we can build healthier schools and communities which offer opportunities for their children to grow and their families to prosper. She will share initiatives that we can be involved in now to help support this work in all schools in the Portland/Vancouver area.
