A Community Approach to an Educational Challenge
Since 2007, Marna has been the Program Manager for The Right Brain Initiative, an arts education partnership program of the Regional Arts & Culture Council in the Portland tri-county area. The initiative supports the collaboration of teachers and teaching artists to ensure high-quality arts integrated learning in every K-8 classroom in three counties. Marna’s 30-plus year career in arts education includes public school and non-profit experience. At Portland's Jefferson High School she served as events manager and performing arts magnet program coordinator. In Washington State, she was a founding faculty member of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, a grade 6-12 public school where the arts connect with academic subjects in an interdisciplinary setting. Before launching The Right Brain Initiative, she served as managing director of Caldera, a non-profit supporting Oregon students with year-round arts and mentoring services in their schools.
