Derek Ewell is a former long-term care ombudsman for the State of Oregon and an entrepreneur with a growing Medicare insurance business. In addition, he is a wonderful poet and artist.
Derek, like so many people of color, has and continues to experience racism in all its forms. Tapping into the changing sentiment about race in this country following the deaths of George Floyd and others, Derek has recently launched a new venture in which he presents himself as a Pro-BIPOC Anti-Racist Facilitator and Coach. His goal is to work with the white community to create and engage white allies in the fight for racial justice.
His talk is titled: “Othered and Empathy” which speaks to his experience as a black man. His insights on empathy provide a road map for all of us as each of us grapple with what we individually and collectively can do to address our country’s racial inequities.
Hope to see you there!
