Power Hour July 14 - Approaching Challenge with Courage, presented by Allie Roberts, Director of Program
Since 1912, Girl Scouts have been learning how to rise up to any challenge with courage, confidence and character through the Girl Scout Program. With the global COVID-19 pandemic, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) In the face of this pandemic, GSUSA has launched the Girl Scouts At Home program, an online platform that provides virtual program opportunities to girls nation-wide, whether they are a Girl Scout or not.
Locally, Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington (GSOSW) is providing girls within the region the opportunity to engage with the Girl Scout program from the comfort of their own home. GSOSW program staff created 6 weeks of daily programming shared on the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington Facebook page. With themed days like Science Sunday and Fresh Air Fridays these new activities helped girls further explore STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship and civic engagement. While all overnight and day camp programs were cancelled, the outdoor program team found a way to bring camp home! The brand new Camp On programming includes themed experience kits mailed straight to the girl and monthly virtual campouts. Designed to help girls explore camp activities at home on a schedule that fits their family, the experience kit includes Camp On! swag, activity guidance and all of the supplies they need to bring each month’s theme to life. Through a mix of recorded video content and hands-on activities, Camp On! experience kit activities limit screen time and encourage the exploration of nature at home and in their neighborhood.
